Bruker’s Tribology, Stylus and Optical Metrology (TSOM) Business Unit, headquartered in San Jose, California, is the industry leader in multi-function Tribology test systems, Stylus Profilers, 3D Optical Microscopes and nano-scale resolution Optical Metrology systems with staff in Asia, Europe, and the United States.
Responsibilities
Lead and direct hardware engineering activities for Bruker’s Tribology, Stylus and Optical Metrology (TSOM) product lines. Manage a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists across systems engineering, technology development, electrical and mechanical engineering, and product verification & test.
Core Functions
- Lead new product development and ensure efficient transition to manufacturing through disciplined product lifecycle management.
- Develop and manage innovative product roadmaps aligned with market needs and IP strategy to deliver differentiated solutions.
- Prioritize and execute sustaining engineering initiatives, including customer-specific enhancements, cost reduction, quality improvements, and support.
- Build and lead a world-class, multi-site engineering team; optimize internal and outsourced resources to meet operational and growth goals.
- Manage departmental resource planning and project-level budgets.
- Contribute to cross-functional business improvement initiatives supporting Bruker’s strategic objectives.
- Represent the business technically to senior management, customers, partners, and collaborators.
- Establish engineering policies and procedures aligned with business unit goals.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, And ABILITIES
Proven technical leadership in developing scientific instruments or test equipment that are manufacturable and serviceable.Hands-on and managerial experience across electronics, materials, mechanical, optics, and systems architecture disciplines.Expertise in formalized product development processes, project management, budgeting, and resource planning.Ability to manage multiple initiatives and deliver results in a dynamic environment.Strong customer orientation with decisive action, critical thinking, and problem-solving capabilities.Excellent communication and collaboration skills across all organizational levels.High accountability, enthusiasm, and a practical, results-driven mindset.Experience in customer engagement and commercial product development leveraging common platforms.Demonstrated success in recruiting, mentoring, and leading high-performance technical teams across international and multi-site environments.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or applied sciences (e.g., physics, optics, materials science, physical chemistry) required; Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.Minimum of 7 years of experience managing product development teams of 8+ members.At Bruker, base salary is part of our total compensation. The estimated base salary range for this full-time position is between $149,400 and $266,000.
