S&ME is looking for a full-time Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Lexington, Kentucky that is passionate about solving problems and ensuring excellence in every project.

Your Day-to-Day :

  • Reviewing plans specifications and Documentation : Understand project requirements before fieldwork; accurately record observations and testing results related to construction materials.
  • Utilizing Metafield : Utilize field and laboratory information management systems efficiently for data organization.
  • Equipment : Maintain accuracy of field and laboratory tools to meet industry standards.
  • Special Inspection observations : Adhere to International Building Code (IBC) standards for testing and inspecting construction materials.
  • Communicate with stakeholders : Engage with management, contractors, and clients to relay project progress and address concerns.

What You Bring :

  • A high school diploma / GED
  • 0-2 years of experience in construction testing / inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and / or asphalt materials
  • Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
  • Math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
  • The ability to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device
  • One or more active certifications, a plus : American Concrete Institute (ACI) : Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician;

Laboratory Technician International Code Council (ICC) : Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils) DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete

Working Conditions and Physical Demands :

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as :

  • Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
  • Walking over rough and uneven terrain
  • Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
  • Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field / laboratory samples and equipment)
  • Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
  • Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
  • Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
