Staff Accountant – Construction Industry

About the Role
We are a growing subcontractor specializing in wet / dry utilities and construction services. We're looking for a hands-on Staff Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can bring structure, accuracy, and accountability to our financial operations. This role is about execution and process discipline, owning the details of the books, keeping schedules clean, and supporting the team with reliable, timely financial information.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting operations, including journal entries, bank reconciliations, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and maintain general ledger schedules with an emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Support month-end and year-end close, ensuring accounts are fully reconciled and documented.
- Assist in preparing WIP schedules, job cost reports, and project tracking to keep leadership and project managers aligned.
- Ensure AP, AR, and payroll entries flow correctly into the GL and reconcile across entities.
- Monitor budgets vs. actuals at the job level and escalate discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain documentation for external audits, tax filings, bonding, and insurance requests.
- Recommend and help implement process improvements for accounting efficiency (closing cadence, reconciliations, reporting).
- Work directly with the Controller and CFO to ensure financials are complete and reliable.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).2–4 years of accounting experience, ideally in construction or another job-costing industry.Strong knowledge of GAAP and practical experience with reconciliations, month-end close, and WIP / job cost reporting.ERP experience preferred (Foundation, Sage 300, Vista, or similar).Advanced Excel skills (reconciliations, pivots, lookups).Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a subcontractor culture where direct communication and follow-through matter.Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines without letting details slip.What We Offer
