• Ability to manage Heavy Cardio Thoracic Surgical patients

Description :

This position is for a Registered Nurse specialized in MedSurg / Tele.

The facility is a teaching hospital with a Level 1 Trauma designation.

The unit consists of 40 beds with an average daily census of 36 patients.

Travelers with less than 2 years of experience will not be considered due to the complexity of the patient population.

Common diagnoses include patients with solid tumors and post-surgical oncology cases.

The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1 : 4-5.

CNA support is available for patient rounds every 4 hours, assisting with vital signs, drain collections, and daily care tasks.

A unit secretary is present to help with administrative tasks during the day.

Charge nurses and resource RNs are 90% free floating.

Phlebotomy services will handle routine blood draws, but STAT and timed labs will be the nurse's responsibility when phlebotomy is not available.

There is no IV team available, but a VARs team can be accessed during the day.

Respiratory therapy is available 24 / 7, as well as a resident or assigned provider.

Central telemetry monitoring is provided for patient safety.

The electronic medical record system in use is Epic.

IV pumps are provided by Alaris, and medication dispensing is handled through Omnicell.

Continuous patient monitoring utilizes Philips and Visi systems.

Travelers may float within the cancer center first and then to any medical-surgical unit in the hospital if necessary.

Weekend rotations are required every other weekend, and travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays.

Requests for time off can be approved up to 7 days, provided the contract is extended.

Scrub color is royal blue.

The unit culture is supportive of learning and teaching, with heavy involvement from the leadership team.
