PURPOSE OF THE POSITION :
Written translation and oral interpretation from English to Spanish, Arabic or Swahili.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : None

- Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives, and parameters found in the Board’s strategic plan.
- Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
- Provides professional oral interpretation services between district staff and parents via zoom, in person, or 3-way conference calls for designated meetings including, but not limited to Special Education meetings, student discipline meetings, parent teacher conferences, District events, and Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee meetings.
- Provides quality written translations of District documents and publications from English to Spanish, Arabic or Swahili, including but not limited to District handbooks, discipline referrals, Special Education documents, flyers, brochures, newsletters, and curriculum materials.
- Edits and proofreads other team members’ translations meticulously.
- Carries out project management duties of written translation and oral interpretation requests from schools and departments accurately and efficiently.
- Requests quotes, creates invoices, and assigns written translation of documents to outside agencies or subcontracted translators.
- Prioritizes individual workload to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS : High School Diploma or equivalent required. Relevant Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience with simultaneous and / or consecutive oral interpreting and written translation of documents from English to Spanish, Arabic or Swahili preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

- Outstanding written and oral proficiency in both English and Spanish, Arabic or Swahili, excellent computer skills, understanding of the translator / interpreter code of ethics.

WORK CALENDAR : 12 Months
WORKING CONDITIONS : Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state and out-of-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
