VPG Construction is looking for a Junior Construction Estimator. This position is based out of Harvey, LA and typically works a day shift, although some availability outside of regular hours may be required.

The successful candidate will perform assignments specific to construction project estimating duties, necessary to support the Senior Level Estimators and help the company to pursue new work.

This position will offer continuous mentoring and training by Senior Level Estimators and Project Managers with Hands On responsibility to grow professionally, learn the necessary know-how and understand the estimating / quotation process.

Summary :

• Reading drawings, specifications, and RFP’s
• Creating initial detailed take-offs to support construction cost estimates for all trades
• Support of Senior Estimators in the preparation of cost estimates and proposals
• Obtaining, analyzing, and tracking vendor quotes
• Tracking costs and quantities
• Visiting project sites with Project Manager to better understand our construction methods
• Attending training to develop relevant knowledge and skills
• Manage invitations to bid work
• Review communications from architects and general contractors
• Download and organize electronic plan files
• Identify and document vital project information
• Accurately measure quantities using digital estimating software
• Identify details and specifications using digital estimating software
• Accurately input numbers and detail information into Microsoft Excel
• Identify plan and specification discrepancies
• Prepare pre-proposal document outlining scope of work
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and negotiations with clients
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to gather information for estimating purposes
• Strong negotiating skills secure competitive pricing from subcontractor and supplier bids to ensure competitive pricing
• Review project proposals

Qualifications

• Associate degree preferred.
• Two (2) or more years' experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years of prior supervisory and / or management experience required,
• Requires intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

• Possess extensive analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to be an initiative-taker and have strong time management skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task and handle multiple priorities.
• Ability and willingness to exert disciplinary action as needed as well as delegate authority.
• Ability to work both with minimal supervision and as a team player.

Requirements

• Ability to pass criminal background check, and drug screening.
• Possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
• Ability to be insured as an authorized driver for the Company.
• Ability to work any time or day of the week, including weekends and holidays.
