Medication Technician
The essential functions of the job for the Medication Technician, requires, and may be amended from time to time at the sole discretion of Viva Senior Living to include, but are not limited to the following :
- Comply with standards of business conduct in accordance with federal, state and local health and regulatory standards and guidelines, as applicable.
- Must possess, at a minimum, a high school diploma or a GED
- Must be able to work well with peers in a congenial work environment, and above all, maintain the utmost compassion and dignity to the residents and adhere to the Resident Bill of Rights.
- In exigent circumstances, the employee may be subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, temporary staffing shortages, etc.).
- Must adhere to Viva Senior Living's attendance policies and follow the terms and conditions of employment as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must maintain the highest standards in caring and servicing the needs of the residents and residents' family members and loves ones.
- Must adhere to all facility policies and procedures.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities
Responsible for the accurate and timely distribution and documentation of medication for residents in accordance with each resident's physician's orders and applicable regulations.Assist residents in maintaining their total wellbeing by following the established Plan of Care, providing assistance with activities of daily living, social activities, dietary assistance, and Viva Senior Living's philosophies.Supervise and care for residents on daily basis according to residents' needsAid with activities of daily livingAssistance with bathing, shower, and shampoo if necessaryHelp with dressing, oral hygiene, shaving, hair and fingernail care if neededObserve, supervise, and record resident self-administration of prescribed medicationsReport refusals and / or reactions to supervisor on dutyDirect residents and family members to appropriate staff for other needs or informationOrder meal trays for residents when neededReport and record observations of changes in residents' condition to director or supervisor in the daily logbook. Transfer relevant information to the next shift through the shift-to-shift verbal reportImplement personal care plans for each residentBe patient and understanding in communicating with staff, residents, and visitors. Speak slowly and clearly. Refer families to director or supervisor regarding status of residents when unsure of statusProvide assistance in dining room as neededAdminister medication as directed by supervisorAnswer emergency calls promptly and courteously, complete required paperwork afterwardRetrieve soiled linen and personal clothing from resident living areas. Sort and pre-soak linens as required before processing through washing machinesResponsible for general upkeep and cleanliness of a resident's room. Empty waste baskets, wipe up spills, wash dishes, put away clothes, check refrigerator for spoiled food, and make beds, change linensCheck for unsecured throw rugs and extension cordsObserve condition of room / apartment and report anything in need of repair to maintenanceDocument clearly and objectively on residents in logbook and on other documentsParticipate in in-service educational programs as required by the community and statePerform other duties as requiredRequirements
Annual Health Requirements :
Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination required with exceptions for medical and religious accommodations.Physical and Sensory Requirements :

Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, agitated residentsMust be able to push, pull, move, and / or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and / or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
