Main Purpose of Job
A Correctional Maintenance Officer Manager is the managerial level of maintenance work in a correctional facility which involves the security custody and supervision of adult inmates who perform maintenance work. Employees in this class directly supervise Correctional Maintenance Officer Supervisors and indirectly supervise Correctional Maintenance Officers.
POSITION DUTIES
Supervises Correctional Maintenance Officer Supervisors;
Manages a staff of Correctional Maintenance Officers engaged in maintenance or repair tasks in trades such as electrical work plumbing carpentry metal work plastering painting masonry locksmithing motor vehicle mechanics stationary engineering and groundskeeping;
Prepares periodic employee evaluation reports;
Monitors the work of inmate workers and trains them in the proper and safe performance of maintenance tasks;
Manages the implementation of the preventative maintenance program at the institution;
Inspects work performed by outside contractors and prepares reports on findings;
Prepares specifications for the requisition of equipment tools parts and supplies;
Manages the control and inventory of equipment tools parts and supplies;
Maintains fuel consumption records and prepares energy efficiency reports;
Manages the operation and maintenance of central air conditioning plants and related auxiliaries;
May adjust maintain and make minor repairs to refrigeration and cooling equipment and to other modern electronically operated control devices;
May operate and maintain coal gas or oil-fueled boilers;
May conduct maintenance staff meetings;
May act as the principal assistant to a Correctional Maintenance Services Manager;
May manage a segment of a regionalized maintenance program;
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.
Experience : Two years of experience involving the supervision of employees engaged in stationary engineering maintenance or construction trades.

1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article Section 8-209 Annotated Code of Maryland.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience.

LICENSES REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operators license valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees who have not already done so must complete and successfully pass the Entrance Level Correctional Training Course required for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certificate during the probationary period
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Selection standards for Correctional Officer certification are established by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article Section 8-209 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations Title 12 Subtitle 10 Chapter 01 and include the following :
U.S. Citizenship
Must be at least 21 years of age
A completed background investigation
Oral interview
Physical examination.
2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and therefore must provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
3. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09 Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
