General Job Description
The Mortgage Loan Officer is responsible for sourcing and developing new mortgage loan opportunities primarily through external sales efforts, networking, and relationship building. This role is heavily focused on generating new business outside of MCCU’s existing member base, leveraging referral sources, real estate agents, builders, and other professional networks. The Loan Officer identifies clients’ financing needs, recommends appropriate mortgage products, and ensures a seamless loan origination process from application to closing.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Proactively source and cultivate new mortgage leads through external sales efforts, including networking, community engagement, and partnerships with real estate professionals, builders, and financial advisors.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with realtors, brokers, and other business partners to generate ongoing referral business.
- Identify prospective borrowers, conduct initial consultations, and assess financial profiles to determine appropriate mortgage solutions.
- Attend industry events, community functions, and networking opportunities to expand business development efforts.
- Conduct regular follow-ups with leads and referral partners to drive loan volume and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Ensure exceptional member service by maintaining comprehensive knowledge of lending programs, industry trends, and regulatory requirements.
- Achieve or exceed monthly and annual loan production goals through proactive sales strategies.
- Guide clients through the mortgage process, from application to closing, ensuring all required documentation is collected and regulatory guidelines are met.
- Work closely with internal underwriting, processing, and closing teams to facilitate loan approvals and timely closings.
- Maintain detailed records of sales activities, lead generation efforts, and pipeline management.
- Keep current with mortgage industry trends, competitive products, and changes in federal and state mortgage regulations.
- Respond promptly to client and partner inquiries, ensuring clear and professional communication throughout the loan process.
- Fosters and maintains positive relationships with both co-workers and members by actively embracing and demonstrating MCCU's culture, known as IMPACT.
Essential Job Requirements
Texas Mortgage Loan Officer License preferred (or ability to obtain).3-5 years of experience in mortgage loan origination, with a focus on external sales and business development.Ability to identify and capitalize on sales opportunities.Adaptable to change and market conditions.Professional appearance and strong interpersonal skills.Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.Skills / Abilities
Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with real estate professionals and other referral sources.Strong knowledge of mortgage loan products, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory compliance.Excellent sales, negotiation, and networking skills with a goal-driven mindset.Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.Strong oral and written communication skills.High level of organization and time management skills to handle multiple client interactions.Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate clients and attend networking events.Experience with mortgage origination software, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.Physical / Mental Requirements of the Position
