Position Summary :

The School Engagement Navigator is responsible for supporting families with school-aged children as they navigate educational systems, re-enrollment, and enrichment programming. This role ensures that each child has access to age-appropriate academic supports while also serving as a resource for parents / guardians who need assistance engaging with Denver-area schools, early childhood education centers, and related programs. Working collaboratively with internal and external partners, this position will strengthen school connections, reduce absenteeism, and uplift long-term educational outcomes for families in shelter.

Job Location : Tamarac Family Shelter

Reports to : Program Manager

Travel Requirements : Local travel may be required

Mission of Role

Bayaud Works provides critical services and expertise in short- and long-term homeless sheltering, non-congregate and congregate emergency sheltering, and workforce support services. General Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Support children and families with enrolling or re-engaging in school, daycare, or educational programs.
  • Coordinate with Denver Public Schools and other local school districts to identify enrollment or transportation needs.
  • Provide individualized education navigation, including documentation support and advocacy.
  • Develop and lead educational, enrichment, and social-emotional programming for children onsite.
  • Refer families to community-based education resources and afterschool programs.
  • Maintain accurate records in Clarity, HMIS, and program tracking tools.
  • Collaborate with internal case management and shelter teams to support family goals.
  • Collect and report outcomes in alignment with contract deliverables and funding requirements.
  • Participate in required agency and partner training, including HIPAA, NARCAN, CPR, and Child Protection protocols.
  • Attend case conferencing meetings and city coordination calls as needed.
  • Uphold a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach to all guest interactions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of educational systems and enrollment processes for youth in crisis.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with family homelessness, trauma-informed practices, and supportive service delivery.
  • Ability to problem-solve creatively and compassionately with families.
  • Competence in data entry, reporting, and using electronic case management systems.
  • Ability to manage programming for children across age groups in a shelter setting.
  • Expected Hours of Work

    40 hours per week (evening, weekends, and holidays availability required)

    Physical Demands

  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend, and engage in active programming with children.
  • Must be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors, including in community settings.

  • Work Environment

    Bayaud Works is a subsidiary of AC Disaster Consulting. Our Temporary Staffing Service partners with Federal, State, City, County, and private employers to provide high-quality staffing and operational support. Bayaud Works was created to provide opportunities for individuals with barriers to employment and has since expanded to include shelter management, safety patrol, janitorial services, and transportation operations.

    Experience and Education Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with families or children in crisis.
  • Experience and Education Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or related field preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish / English) preferred.
  • Additional Qualifications

  • Background check required and Host Sensitivity Training.
