Overview

Instructional Technology Support Specialist at Thornton Fractional High School District 215. Reports to the Director of Technology Services. This role supports and enhances the integration of technology in teaching and learning while providing exceptional technology support and customer service to staff and students.

Position summary

The Instructional Technology Support Specialist supports and enhances the integration of technology in teaching and learning while providing exceptional technology support and outstanding customer service to staff and students within District 215.

General purpose

Maintains the operation of technology in the school building, troubleshoots technology problems, and provides written support or conveys information regarding instructional materials. Facilitates the use of technology in the classroom, supports teachers in using educational technology tools, and manages software and hardware systems.

Role Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Customer service focused attitude with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license for travel between school campuses.

Position Responsibilities

  • Works closely with teachers, the Director of Technology Services, and building principals to meet educational objectives.
  • Quickly assesses hardware and / or software application malfunctions and takes appropriate actions to maintain building technology operations.
  • Assists teachers in integrating technology into their curriculum.
  • Installs, configures, maintains, and supports a variety of technology systems including computers, mobile devices, hardware / software, interactive white boards, projectors, telephony equipment, security cameras, document cameras, and other educational and business technology equipment.
  • Coordinates timely repairs and replacements of building technology to ensure high availability of equipment and systems.
  • Assists in the creation of comprehensive documentation for written reference, and / or training.
  • Provides basic troubleshooting and maintenance of building LAN for the purpose of maintaining building level network connectivity.
  • Provides strong and professional customer support for all District staff and students.
  • Works closely with district staff to identify needs and make recommendations for more efficient and effective district information systems.
  • Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities to enhance ability to perform the essential job functions.
  • Follows all security policies and procedures, maintains confidentiality of sensitive data and information, and has a security focused mindset.
  • Assists in the training of staff, both one-on-one and in a group setting, on hardware, software, and procedures.
  • Assists in Information Technology department level projects related to the implementation and maintenance of information systems.
  • Secures district assets by maintaining comprehensive documentation and inventory.
  • Completes work in established time frame and seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed or pace is slow.
  • Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles of the organization and changing environment.
  • Consistently arrives at work on time and completes all tasks assigned.
  • Assists teachers in integrating technology into their curriculum.
  • Performs special assignments and other duties as determined by the Director of Technology Services.

  • Ability to organize and manage multiple simultaneous priorities and tasks.

  • Ability to gain a basic understanding of high school curriculum and instruction; experience working in a high school setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of information systems through technical certifications preferred.

  • Terms Of Employment

  • Full-time, 12-month work year.
  • Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) position.
  • Starting annual salary between $48,000 and $51,000.
  • Fringe benefits as provided by the current Work Rules & Regulations for Administrative Support Staff.
  • Annual performance evaluation based on Board of Education policy and the Work Rules & Regulations for Administrative Support Staff.
  • Paid 30-minute lunch and two paid 15-minute breaks.
  • Sick, personal, and vacation days; 15+ paid holidays.
