PERSONAL SUPPORT / Direct Support Professional
Job Title : Personal Support DSP
Reports to : Director of Human Resources
Exempt / Non-Exempt : Non-Exempt
Work Schedule : Varied hours and days
Position Summary :
The Personal Support DSP provides guidance and companionship to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are working toward greater independence. This role focuses on mentorship,
advocacy and community integration as well as personal care. The Personal Support DSP serves as a positive role model and coach assisting the individual navigate daily routines, social situations, and accomplish their personal goals.
Key Responsibilities :
- Support individuals in developing life skills such as personal care (ADLs), meal preparation and assisting with choosing nutritious meals, mobility assistance, and household tasks like cleaning and laundry.
- Provide consistent emotional support and encouragement
- Encourage and model positive social interactions and communication
- Assist with community integration — attending outings, recreational activities, and medical appointments if needed.
- Help participants set and reach personal goals related to independence, and relationships building.
- Promote inclusion, self-advocacy, and safety in all activities
- Maintain accurate records, progress notes and communicate with supervisors and care teams
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the well-being of each participant
Requirements :
At minimum, one year’s experience working with people who have intellectual and physical disabilities.Complete DDA required training (CPR, First Aid, MANDT, CMT) and iCare Manager training.Attends in-service training and professional development opportunities remaining knowledgeable and updated on continuously evolving state and federal policies and procedures as required per employment and L.I.F.E. policy.Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license with less than 2 points on your driving record.Successfully pass a drug screening and criminal background checkQualifications (Skills and Abilities) :
A high school diploma or equivalent from an accredited schoolBasic computer skills to include navigation of internet, and usage of email.Physical Risk :
Work environment involves some exposure to physical risks that require following basic safety precautions.
