Direct Care Staff Responsibilities

🧑⚕️ Core Responsibilities
Personal Care Assistance
Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and hygiene
Support mobility, transfers, and positioning
Medication Support
Administer medications per MAR (Medication Administration Record)
Monitor for side effects and report discrepancies
Daily Living Support
Prepare meals and assist with feeding
Perform housekeeping and maintain a sanitary environment
Manage laundry and organize personal belongings
Health Monitoring
Track vital signs and observe health conditions
Report changes in behavior, health, or mood
Document incidents and concerns accurately
Service Documentation
Maintain Service Delivery Logs
Complete progress notes and data collection forms
Ensure compliance with HHSC documentation standards
Safety & Emergency Preparedness
Participate in fire drills and emergency training
Follow universal precautions and infection control protocols
Monitor water temperature logs for safety
Community Integration
Transport clients to appointments, church, or community events
Support clients in social and recreational activities
Encourage exercise and engagement in hobbies
Behavioral Support
Redirect clients during behavioral episodes
Implement behavior support plans as needed
Childcare/Babysitting (if applicable)
Provide supervision and care for children in respite settings
Ensure safe and nurturing environments
📋 Qualifications & Training Requirements
Minimum age: 18 years
Completion of background check, TB test, and physical exam
CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire
Orientation on service plans, emergency procedures, and client-specific needs
