Utility Maintenance Technician
The Utility Maintenance Technician must perform a variety of unskilled and / or semi-skilled laboring tasks as a member of a crew involved in the construction and maintenance of Water and Sewer systems or Stormwater systems for Metro Water Services. Performs related duties as required. Employees hired in this position will learn utility maintenance and equipment operation. Successful employees will receive raises and promotions as they gain new skills. The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress that require a range of safety and other precautions. The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, or crouching or crawling in restricted areas. Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions and in rugged terrain for long periods of time. Overtime and weekend work may be required.
Employees at Metro Water Services work around the clock to ensure high quality drinking water, and the best in storm water management and wastewater treatment for the residents of Nashville-Davidson County and some surrounding areas. It takes electricians, chemists, engineers, mechanics, information technology workers, customer service representatives and more working together to service more than 176,000 water and 189,000 sewer accounts.

Minimum Qualifications
Eighth Grade Education. Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply. Note : Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
