While artificial intelligence (AI) and generative design tools have become more common across industries, their use raises important questions around authorship, intellectual property, and the nature of artistic expression. As a nonprofit arts organization, our mission is rooted in celebrating human connection through theatre and education. We believe that the value of graphic design for our institution lies not only in aesthetics but also in the perspective, lived experience, and intentionality that human artists bring to their work. For this reason, we are establishing clear expectations around the role of AI in proposals submitted to us.This clause is designed to protect the originality of the work we commission, to reduce the risks associated with copyright and ownership of AI-generated material, and to ensure that the selected designers artistry reflects human creativity at its core.Definition : For the purposes of this RFP, AI-generated content means any visual, textual, or graphic element that is created or derived, in whole or in part, from the use of generative or algorithmic systems (e.g., diffusion models, prompt-based generators, automated image / layout creators), without substantial subsequent human authorship, editing, or design intervention.Respondents must adhere to the following requirements : Disclosure Requirement : Proposers must disclose whether AI or generative tools were used at any point in the creation of their submission, including preliminary sketches, mockups, or final artwork. For each instance, proposers must identify : (i) which tool was used, (ii) which elements were AI-generated, and (iii) how the content was refined by human designers.Permitted Use : AI tools may be used for ideation, exploration, or reference purposes (e.g., mood boards, exploratory drafts).Prohibited Use : Final deliverables (production-ready artwork, logo files, brand identity assets) must not be purely AI-generated.
