Job Title : Family Support Coordinator
Department : Family Support
Reports To : Director of Volunteers & Family Support
Classification : Part-Time
The Family Support Coordinator is an essential role that will help to facilitate all aspects of the Family Support program at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon & SW Washington.
The Family Support team helps lead enrichment programming for guest families, coordinates aspects of the food program, works with volunteers and volunteer groups and helps support families through a variety of different programs and services offered.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities :
- Be the onsite contact for the Family Support team and work out of the Family Support office at one of our two Portland Houses.
- Greet guests and connect them to the community spaces and other support resources such as welcome bags, in-house programming, meals, and more.
- Ensure family resources are available and stocked, such as welcome gifts, toys, art supplies, clothing, food items, and more.
- Welcome and coordinate the Family Support volunteers.
- Lead or facilitate volunteer led activities such as bingo, craft activities, and other events.
- Support the Food Program Manager by working with volunteer meal groups who come in to make meals for the guests.
- Help facilitate other aspects of the food program such as pantry and snack distribution and other tasks as needed.
- Work with volunteer groups who come in to facilitate enrichment activities or other service projects.
- Help coordinate offsite programs such as the Hospitality Cart program located in one of our partner hospitals.
- Create and distribute programming materials for guests such as the weekly activity calendar and other guest communication
Other Duties and Responsibilities :
- Work closely with the members of the Family Support team to assess and innovate Family Support programs.
- Help gather family feedback on the guest survey and through other means.
- Distribute and organize donations (items and food).
- Assist the Food Program Manager with food inventory, organization of pantry, and other fridge / freezer spaces.
Requirements :
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working closely with children and families or in a social services or hospital setting.
- Experience delivering services under a Trauma informed care lens. (preferred)
- A minimum of 2 years of experience working in a food services setting (preferred)
Educational Requirements :
- High school degree or GED
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- Degree in Child Life, psychology, social services, or equivalent (preferred)
Skills Required :
- Ability to work with children of all ages and families in crisis.
- Ability to facilitate group programming for guest families including overseeing volunteer groups.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Comfortability with databases and applications.
- Basic cooking skills and knowledge of serving meals to large groups of people.
- Strong knowledge of food safety and proper food storage.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with a team.
- Ability to effectively communicate in both a verbal and written manner.
- Strong organizational and cleaning skills.
- Ability to design and produce guest facing documents.
- Proficiency in speaking and writing in Spanish (preferred)

- Able to maintain a positive and professional attitude under varying levels of stress.
- Must be very comfortable interacting with both children and adults from a Trauma Informed Care lens.
- Comfortable leading and working with a variety of volunteers from different backgrounds and skill levels.
- Being flexible regarding work assignments and changing demands / priorities.
Work Environment :
- Most work will be conducted in either an office, community program area or a kitchen environment.
- Work will be primarily indoors.
- Employee may be required to lift up to 30lbs.
- May need to adjust schedule as needed.
- This position may need to travel across multiple locations within the Portland Metro area.
