Shift : Evening 3pm -11pm
Job Summary
- The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing surgical instruments, medical devices, and equipment.
- This role helps maintain the highest standards of infection control, ensures timely availability of sterile supplies for surgical and clinical procedures, and supports patient safety by preventing contamination.
Key Responsibilities / Duties
Receive used surgical instruments and medical equipment from operating rooms, procedure rooms, and other clinical areas.Perform manual cleaning and disinfection of instruments using appropriate cleaning agents, detergents, and methods.Operate mechanized decontamination equipment such as washers, ultrasonic cleaners, etcInspect instruments for damage, wear, lumens, and functionality.Assemble surgical instrument trays / sets based on surgeon preference cards or case carts.Lubricate or do maintenance on instruments when required.Sterilization / PackagingWrap items appropriately for sterilization (e.g., using wraps, pouches, containers).Load and operate sterilization equipment (e.g., steam autoclaves, Sterrad, chemical sterilizers).Monitor sterilization cycles, verify parameters, and document sterilization indicators.Perform biological or chemical indicator tests, log results, and report any failures.Storage & DistributionStore sterile instruments and supplies in appropriate conditions to maintain sterility.Prepare and deliver surgical case carts or trays to operating rooms / clinical departmentsRespond to urgent or STAT (emergency) requests for instruments / suppliesInventory ManagementMaintain inventory of surgical instruments, sterile supplies, and consumables.Rotate stock, check for expiry dates, and reorder when necessary.Document supply usage and instrument usage.Quality Assurance & SafetyAdhere to infection control policies, safety standards (e.g., OSHA, AAMI) and hospital protocolsMaintain and document preventive maintenance of sterilization equipment.Dispose of biohazardous materials safely as per protocol.Report any equipment malfunction, damage, or safety issues to supervisor promptlyDocumentation & Record KeepingRecord sterilization cycles, load Maintain logs, checklists, and other records for sterilization and instrument tracking.Communication & CoordinationQualifications / Requirements
Education : High school diploma or equivalent.
