Deputy Group Leader (R&D Manager 3)
The Test Engineering (V-14) Group is seeking a Deputy Group Leader, partnering with the Group Leader and existing Deputy Group Leader to manage experimental capabilities and expertise in support of the Weapons Engineering mission. The Deputy Group Leader will actively participate in fostering a team environment with group-level staff, programmatic partners, other DOE facilities, DOD, and the Atomic Weapons Establishment in the United Kingdom. V-14 provides experimental solutions and expertise to address critical weapon design questions, including qualification testing; component and material response, including margin assessment; system, sub-system and component environmental specification development and management and assessment of complex data and data sets. The group designs, plans and executes a wide variety of engineering tests including thermal, vibration, shock, reentry, and blast.

Technical Skills
Demonstrated record of technical achievement in engineering or a related scientific field and implementation of solutions to technical problems. Demonstrated experience planning or executing moderate and high risk operations while fostering a safe, secure and environmentally-conscious culture.
Leadership & Management
Experience in technical leadership and / or program management, including success in program development, resource planning and allocation, technical program execution and negotiation. Demonstrated record of teamwork and team development.
Communication
Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, which includes the ability to engage in technical conversations with all levels of staff and Laboratory management.
Collaboration and Team Work
Demonstrated ability to contribute to effective, intellectually diverse teams, and interact with colleagues with diverse professional, educational and experience backgrounds. Demonstrated experience advising and guiding experimental work including mentoring junior staff, students or technicians.
Education / Experience : Position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 5 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications :
Demonstrated knowledge of LANL weapon systems, sub-systems, and components. Experience planning and executing experiments including knowledge of testing hardware and experimental design methodologies. Experience with nuclear weapon component fabrication and assembly techniques and advance fabrication processes. Familiarity with LANL administrative, safety and security policies. Experience in process hazard analysis, development of integrated work documents, and safety basis operations. Experience managing personnel, including conflict resolution. A MS or PhD degree. Active Q clearance.
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. Position commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance : Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
