Our Tax Director position represents the pinnacle of tax practice leadership, combining strategic business development with operational excellence and client relationship management. As a Tax Director, you’ll drive revenue growth while leading high-performing tax teams and serving as a trusted advisor to our most valued clients on complex tax matters.
This role offers significant autonomy and leadership responsibility within our established tax practice, where you’ll shape tax strategy, develop new opportunities, and potentially serve on our Senior Operations Management Team. We’re seeking accomplished tax professionals who can balance technical tax expertise with business acumen while building lasting client relationships that drive sustainable growth.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Revenue Growth
- Expand revenue streams from existing client relationships through strategic tax planning services and value-added tax solutions
- Develop and execute comprehensive business development plans, including personal marketing strategies and new tax client acquisition initiatives
- Meet established business development revenue expectations through new client additions and cross-service tax opportunities
- Lead short-term and long-term business planning efforts, identifying strategic growth opportunities for both the tax practice and broader firm initiatives
Tax Practice Management & Operations
Manage tax practice operations effectively while meeting critical performance metrics including billing targets, realization goals, days outstanding objectives, and individual charge hour requirementsEnsure adherence to quality control standards across all tax engagements and compliance deliverablesServe as internal tax advisor and recognized Tax Subject Matter Expert on complex tax issuesMay participate as a member of the Senior Operations Management Team, contributing to firm-wide strategic decisionsClient Tax Advisory Leadership
Serve as primary tax advisor and trusted business counselor for key client relationshipsWork directly with clients to understand their tax challenges and provide strategic tax planning solutionsMaintain exceptional client service standards that reinforce long-term tax advisory relationshipsDrive client satisfaction and retention through proactive tax planning communication and value deliveryLead and manage tax professionals across multiple client engagements and service areasFoster a collaborative team environment that demonstrates support for tax department initiatives and builds positive workplace cultureMentor and develop tax team members to achieve their professional goals and contribute to firm successChampion firm values and maintain high standards of professional conduct in tax practiceRequired Qualifications
Education & Certification
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or related fieldActive CPA license requiredMaster’s degree in Taxation (MST) or LLM in Taxation strongly preferredExperience & Leadership
Minimum 8 years of progressive tax experience in public accountingAt least 6 years of tax team supervisory experience with demonstrated leadership successProven track record of tax practice business development and revenue generationExperience managing multiple tax client relationships and complex tax engagementsCore Tax Competencies
Deep technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulationsExceptional organizational skills with ability to manage tax deadlines, work on multiple tax assignments, and prioritize effectively during busy seasonStrong verbal and written communication abilities to explain complex tax concepts to clients and team membersProven high level of business integrity, tax advisory excellence, and leadership capabilitiesProficiency with tax preparation software, tax research platforms, and professional applicationsTravel & Flexibility

Advanced Tax Experience
Experience in specialized tax areas (international tax, M&A, state and local tax, etc.)Track record of successful tax practice development and client portfolio growthPrevious experience on senior tax management teams or leadership committeesTechnical Tax Expertise
