Job Announcement

Fairfax County seeks a permit reviewer (Planner I) for the Zoning Permits Section of the Zoning Administration Division. In this position, the permit reviewer performs a variety of complex permit review functions to determine compliance with the requirements of the Zoning Ordinance, Noise Ordinance, and other applicable land development codes. Responsibilities of this position include :

• Research, review, and prepare written and / or verbal responses to permit applications, such as sign permits, temporary outdoor use and activity permits, commercial building permits, nonresidential use permits (aka occupancy permits), and noise waiver requests.
• Provide commentary and analysis on special exception applications for modifications of sign regulations.
• Provide verbal and written responses to questions regarding the Zoning Ordinance, as received from the public, County and / or State agencies, or appointed and elected officials.
• Read and interpret technical documents to include sign permit graphics, sites plans, and survey plats.
• Conduct site inspections as needed or as requested.

Note : The salary for this position will not exceed the midpoint of the advertised salary range ($83,310.03).

In accordance with current Fairfax County telework and personnel policies, this position is eligible for partial telework. Telework enrollment and continuance are subject to supervisor approval and County policy.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following :

Graduation from an accredited, four-year college or university in a planning related field.

BRIDGE CLASS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS :

Four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Planning Technician II, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Planning Technician II, or higher, level. The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County workforce. However, persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED :

Valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

Position is primarily sedentary; however, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items up to 10 pounds in weight. Ability to operate keyboard-driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle to sites in order to perform field inspections. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
