Responsibilities
Accurately assign and sequence ICD diagnostic and procedural codes and / or CPT procedural codes to inpatient and outpatient recordsUtilize a computerized encoding system to facilitate accurate codingAbstract medical data from records to complete discharge abstracts for various patient visitsEnsure the accuracy and integrity of medical record abstract data prior to billing interface and claims submissionCommunicate and advise on coding and APC assignment and submissionQualifications
Minimum educational requirement : Completion of an approved coding program with AHIMA or AAPC approval statusMinimum 3 years of recent experience coding in an acute hospital settingMust possess one of the following certifications : CCS, CIC, COC, RHIA, or RHITDemonstrated coding ability via a skills assessmentPreferred Qualifications
