Nonprofit Controller

About the Role :
Reporting to the CFO, the Controller will serve as a key strategic partner in managing all aspects of accounting and financial reporting. You'll oversee a talented team of 3+ accounting professionals, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency across all financial functions. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for flexibility while maintaining strong collaboration with leadership and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger management, financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, accounts payable / receivable, and tax compliance.
- Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Manage cash flow and investment balances, and prepare accurate forecasts and financial analyses.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure compliance with GAAP and all relevant regulations.
- Direct the proper recording and reporting of grants and restricted funds in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Collaborate with the CFO and executive team on strategic financial planning and decision-making.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members to support professional growth and strong performance.
- Oversee annual audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.57 years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience, including prior experience as a Controller.CPA preferred (or CMA).Deep understanding of fund accounting and management of restricted funds.Proficiency with accounting softwareMIP Fund Accounting experience preferred but not required.Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Commitment to advancing educational equity and excellence.Why You'll Love Working Here
