Riverview Materials is looking for a hands-on Yard Operations Manager to oversee daily operations at our recycling facility in Riverdale. This role is best suited for someone who is comfortable working outdoors in a fast-paced, industrial environment and has experience leading a team of operators, drivers, and laborers.
You will be responsible for managing yard operations—including sorting, loading, equipment use, and truck flow—while ensuring safety, efficiency, and productivity on the ground. This is not an office-based management role; it's for someone who thrives in working shoulder-to-shoulder with the team , getting things done, and solving problems in real time.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily operations in the yard : loading / unloading, sorting, equipment use, and truck flow.
- Minimize downtime and turnaround time for inbound / outbound trucks.
- Supervise and support yard employees : drivers, operators, sorters, and laborers.
- Ensure all operations follow OSHA, EPA, and company safety guidelines.
- Monitor and maintain equipment with regular inspections and coordination with maintenance.
- Work directly with the General Manager to report performance, challenges, and improvements.
- Operate equipment as needed (forklift, skid steer, front-end loader, yard truck).
- Help maintain site cleanliness, safety, and efficiency.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job are the tasks associated with leading and coaching employees. This includes :
Direct / Indirect supervision of full-time employees including Leads, Drivers, Equipment Operators, Maintenance Mechanics, Sorters and Operational Support.Requirements : Experience :
5+ years in a yard, recycling, scrap, construction, or logistics environment.2+ years in a supervisory or lead role.Experience operating heavy equipment (forklift, skid steer, loader) strongly preferred.Skills :
Strong team leadership and communication skills.Mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial equipment.Ability to problem-solve and make quick decisions in a busy environment.Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.Education :
High School Diploma or GED required.Technical or trade school a plus but not required.Typical Physical Demands :
Ability to operate office equipment used as needed.Ability to organize various office systems / stations through adjusting, connecting, lifting, pulling, pushing, bending or folding for the purpose of proper records development, office functions and / or management.Ability to use a computer and related devices, such as a keyboard or mouse or other related equipment, throughout the workday while seated at a desk or workstation.Ability to climb ladders, bend, stoop or stand for long periods of time.
