Job description

The Network Administrator is responsible for all site network communication, which includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network related hardware and software.

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

Cisco Network Systems Support

  • Work as primary technical engineer to design and install LAN and WAN infrastructure
  • Monitor network performance and provide timely notifications on issues based on their severity
  • Diagnose / trouble-shoot network problems and perform equipment repair and upgrades when appropriate
  • Manage security solutions, which include firewall, load balancers, VPN, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems
  • Install, configure, and maintain network cabling and other networking equipment such as hubs, switches, routers, and serial terminal servers
  • Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network connected end-user hardware, software, and peripheral devices

User Support

  • Provide technical support as needed to network / system users
  • Resolve support tickets
  • Train help desk staff to resolve common support ticket issues
  • Answer user inquiries regarding performance and configuration issues.
  • Documenting / Reporting

  • Document environment installations and configurations of all hardware and software
  • Document customizations to any aspect of a system environment
  • Maintain diagrams / maps of network topology
  • Inventory of systems in both production and test environments
  • REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • BS in computer science or better preferred; equivalent experience will be considered
  • 5+ years of networking experience, or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the requirements of this position
  • Operational knowledge of network protocols like TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, and VoIP
  • Operational knowledge of switch and router configuration like OSPF, BGP and EIGRP
  • Familiarity with Cisco hardware and software
  • Familiarity with network intrusion security devices (Cisco Next-General Firewall)
  • Ability to install software and hardware on networking equipment and microcomputers
  • Familiarity with a variety of networking trouble-shooting utilities (WireShark)
  • Ability to backup and recover network configurations
  • OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to automate tasks to monitor / alert
  • Knowledge of computer network operations in a complex Windows, Linux, UNIX, and a variety of legacy OSes environment
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills ...especially when under pressure
  • Good communication skills ...speaking, listening, and writing / documenting
  • Ability to work well alone / independently ...self-motivated
  • Ability to work well with others in a support function
  • Ability to provide infrequent off hours support
  • Ability to learn new technologies
  • Ability to deal with a variety of changing situations and conflicting priorities
