About The Position

Job Title : Med / Surg Nurse

Profession : Registered Nurse

Hours per Shift : 12 hours

Experience : Minimum 2 years of Med / Surg experience

License : Must have a valid RN license

Certifications : ACLS, BLS, PALS (must be current and attached)

Must-Have : 2 years recent Med / Surg experience

Description :

Med / Surg Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.

Responsibilities include consulting and coordinating with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.

Prepare and administer medications and record prescribed treatments.

Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with nursing policy.

Educate patients on surgical procedures.

Record patients' medical information and vital signs.

Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, interpret and record electronic displays.

Initiate corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptoms.

Provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients.

Initiate a patient education plan as prescribed by the physician.

Teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs.

Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs.

Prepare equipment and assist the physician during examinations and treatment of patients.

Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocols.

Participate in discharge planning.

Utilize time management skills.

Record all care information concisely, accurately, completely, and in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.

Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
