YOUR DAY AS AN ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN
As a vital member of Ferguson Township, the Engineering Technician plays an essential role in civil engineering initiatives. In this role, the employee will support a variety of Public Works initiatives through a combination of fieldwork, inspections, technical drafting, and administrative review. Responsibilities include conducting on-site inspections to ensure quality control of construction projects, preparing daily progress reports, verifying contractor work quantities for payment, and identifying any deviations from project specifications. The position also involves assisting with cost estimates, performing field surveys, and using CADD software to develop engineering drawings and designs. Additional duties include locating underground utilities through the PA One-Call system, assessing road conditions using pavement management software, reviewing highway occupancy permits for compliance with Township standards, and verifying legal property descriptions. This diverse range of responsibilities allows you to apply your technical knowledge while directly contributing to the enhancement of community infrastructure and public resources in State College, PA.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
To thrive as an Engineering Technician at Ferguson Township, candidates should possess a blend of education and practical skills. A high school diploma is required, while an associate or bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred; however, relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Proficiency in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word is essential for effective data management and reporting. In addition, candidates must have a demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD, with a minimum of two years of experience or the ability to showcase competence within one year.
Practical surveying experience or the capacity to demonstrate surveying skills within a year is essential. Furthermore, inspection experience or the ability to prove inspection competence within the same timeframe will make you a strong fit for this position, ensuring successful oversight of public works projects.
