Senior Civil Design Engineer / Group Leader - Freight Rail Team
David Evans and Associates Inc (DEA's) Transit and Rail Group is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer / Group Leader to join our Freight Rail Team. This role can be based in our offices in Dallas / Fort Worth or College Station, TX. The ideal candidate will be a motivated leader with extensive experience and technical expertise in multi-disciplinary rail projects. You will lead a team, transforming innovative concepts into detailed construction drawings and technical specifications, contributing to sustainable transportation solutions.
Key Responsibilities :
- Technical Leadership : Lead design efforts on railroad and civil engineering projects, including utilities, grading, drainage, erosion control, roadway, site development, terminal, and track design. Ensure all designs comply with standards, codes, and regulations from feasibility to construction.
- Construction Documentation : Prepare and review detailed plans, technical reports, specifications, and cost estimates using Bentley OpenRail Designer or MicroStation.
- Project Management and Collaboration : Manage projects to deliver high-quality results on time and budget, collaborating with team members and stakeholders.
- Quality Assurance : Conduct technical reviews and ensure adherence to DEA's quality standards throughout project lifecycle.
- Site Engagement : Participate in project meetings, site visits, and inspections to ensure design alignment with project goals.
- Post-Design Support : Provide support during construction, including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field observations.
- Coordination : Work with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders, resolving design issues and fostering positive relationships.
- Business Development : Participate in marketing, estimating, and resource planning for future projects.
- Leadership and Mentoring : Manage and mentor junior staff, supporting their professional growth.
- Other Duties : Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related fieldPE licenseMinimum 10 years' experience in civil engineering design, focusing on freight rail projectsExperience with railroad industry standards and guidelinesEffective communication and teamwork skillsAbility to travel as neededExperience with clients like BNSF, UPRR, CPKC, NSProven project delivery and business development skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office toolsStrong technical writing and presentation skillsAbility to supervise a team of professionals and techniciansPreferred Qualifications :
