Program Summary

Facilitates weekly in-person classes for groups of up to twenty (20) children ages 35. Implements in kindergarten readiness curriculum focused on early literacy early numeracy and social-emotional learning. Creates a welcoming and respectfully engaging classroom environment that supports childrens growth confidence and school preparedness. Guides children through structured activities routines and play-based learning experiences. Engages positively with children and families to support a smooth transition into kindergarten.

Position Summary

The Lead Instructor supports the implementation of the Kindergarten Transition (KT) program by providing direct services to children and families as they prepare for a successful start to kindergarten. The Lead Instructor creates a welcoming community-responsive and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes early learning school readiness and family this role the Lead Instructor collaborates closely with the Program Coordinator and team members to plan and facilitate daily classroom activities family engagement sessions and community-based learning opportunities. The Lead Instructor prepares lesson materials guides children through routines supports social-emotional development and models for positive behavior and communication.

Within the Kindergarten Transition program this work includes :

  • Building relationships with children and caregivers to support the transition into school settings
  • Encouraging early literacy numeracy and fine / gross motor skill development
  • Supporting families in understanding school expectations resources and processes
  • Creating a respectful and engaging environment that honors each childs and familys identity

The Lead Instructor participates in team meetings reflections and ongoing training to support continuous program improvement. While the Lead Instructor may share observations and feedback with program leadership this position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Essential Functions

  • Outreach and enroll families into the Kindergarten Transition program
  • Prepare and deliver kindergarten preparedness curriculum to students
  • Create and maintain positive classroom environment
  • Prepare and bring activities according to childrens age and stage of development
  • Ability to work with 3- and 5-year-old students
  • Engage with and support families in their childs learning
  • Ability to be flexible and creative in meeting educational needs of multiple students with different language and developmental needs
  • Work closely with Program Coordinator to ensure curriculum aligns with program goals and objectives
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings to support programs goals
  • Keep accurate and timely attendance records of students
  • Keep track and input program data
  • Secondary Functions

  • Ability to meet multiple including conflicting deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the availability of clients
  • Requirements

    Education & Experience

    MINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS :

    Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying. This would typically include :

  • B.A. / B.S. in early childhood education or related field or equivalent experience
  • Experience tutoring and / or instructing children
  • Experience working with populations whose native language is not English students and staff from varied diverse backgrounds
  • Experience using positive reinforcement to manage student behavior
  • Experience utilizing developing and implementing literacy math and social emotional learning curriculum
  • Experience working with multibackground youth and families
  • Must be able to pass to a criminal background and fingerprint check
  • Physical Mental & Environmental Requirements

  • Communication : Regular communication inside and outside the organization to exchange ideas and gather information.
  • Creativity : Minimal need for the redesign of a single focus process or procedure is needed.
  • Mental : There is an occasional need to assess risks as well as to make determinations about tasks and deadlines.
  • Physical : Position requires little physical effort such as lifting carrying or constant movement but does allow for movement needed to complete work tasks.
  • Impact and Influence : Positions at this level have some need or ability to analyze problem or concepts or make decisions on the information. Positions at this level have some impact to and influence on organization operations programs expense or budgetary outcomes.
  • Work Independence : Positions at this level are expected to handle regularly assigned work which includes making decisions and taking action under limited supervision. New or unusual work is performed with a moderate degree of supervision assistance and review.
  • Planning : Positions at this level must be able to foresee issues associated with own work and identify future needs for supplies equipment resources which would stall operations or activities.
  • Environment : This level has a work environment that is well protected with virtually no hazards or obstacles. There is very little element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are stable usually well managed and very comfortable.
  • Schedule : The work schedule is mostly stable and does not fluctuate without prior notice.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    Positions at this level are not responsible for any supervisory functions or responsibilities but may occasionally be asked to orient and / or train new employees or volunteers.
