Job Title : Juvenile Supervision Officer
Employee functions under minimal supervision. Maintains safety for everyone and ensures continuous security. Follows the established guidelines and procedures in regular daily tasks. Must be mature, patient, and show evidence of personal qualities of character and be able to use good judgment. Unusual problems or deviations from policy are referred to supervisor on duty and / or Deputy Director, and / or the Director.

Minimum qualifications include :
Preference may be given to applicants who have acquired a Bachelor's Degree in criminology, corrections, social work, psychology, sociology, or other related field of study; have one or more year(s) of experience in full-time casework, corrections, or juvenile agency that deals with offenders, disadvantaged persons, emotionally disturbed and / or violent children; have served honorably in the U.S. military.
To be eligible for certification the applicant must meet eligibility requirements for appointment as a Juvenile Supervision Officer, shall not have disqualifying criminal history, must obtain current CPR certification, current First Aid certification, current physical restraint training / certification, and eighty (80) hours of in-hire training that is approved by the Texas Juvenile Probation Commission, within the first six months of employment, to become certified as a Juvenile Supervision Officer. Thereafter, applicant must re-certify every two years and maintain certification in First Aid, CPR, and physical restraint.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include :
Working conditions include dealing with emotionally disturbed and / or violent children, crisis prevention, and being familiar with restraint. The threat to physically restrain violent youth, who could pose harm to themselves or others, exists at all times.
The following physical demands would exist in the everyday duties of this position : Standing (40%), Walking (40%), Sitting (20%); Lifting and / or Carrying (1-45 lbs.) - charts, clothing, etc.; Pushing and / or Pulling in physical restraint; Reaching to retain objects in high places; Stooping and / or Kneeling to search or check under chairs, tables, etc (for contraband); Speaking and Hearing in order to communicate with the juveniles; and Sight in order to maintain security of the facility and juveniles.
This position has access to juvenile criminal records, social histories, school records, psychological evaluations, psychiatric evaluations, etc.
Upon job offer, applicant must be able to pass a background check, drug test, a psychological exam, and provide a military discharge certificate, all of which are subject to annual review.
