Contract Los Angeles Arbitration Attorney (Remote)

Overview

Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is seeking a litigation attorney for engagement through the firm's contract attorney and alternative staffing program, DWTSurge. This contract attorney position will work with the Firm's litigation practice group to support and manage high-volume commercial litigation cases, with a focus on arbitrations and demand letters, and other litigation matters for several of DWT's institutional clients. Attorneys admitted to practice in California and based in Los Angeles are preferred. Attorneys should be able to accommodate West Coast hours.

Attorneys should have significant litigation experience, including managing discovery, taking / defending depositions, analyzing claims, and researching and drafting briefs. In addition, attorneys with hands-on trial experience and experience with court appearances and hearings are encouraged to apply. Candidates can expect to work closely with DWT attorneys as part of a collaborative team, providing high-value legal services to DWT clients.

This contract position offers the flexibility of remote work and anticipated full-time hours with a weekly maximum of 40 hours. While the engagement is for an initial 6-month contract term, we anticipate the work to remain relatively steady and there is a high possibility of renewal of the contract position for successful candidates. We are looking for attorneys interested in establishing a long-term working relationship with the Firm.

The selected resource will be responsible for drafting pleadings, motions, and discovery, and working directly with client teams, arbitrators, counterparties, and other stakeholders in support of large institutional clients. Attorneys should be highly organized with strong case management skills and will be required to regularly manage multiple matters with competing deadlines. The ideal candidate will be diligent about both the substantive and administrative requirements of the role to ensure excellent client service, responsiveness, and efficiency in their work. Attorneys should be able to work independently and exercise good judgement, but should also collaborate easily with lawyers and support staff to meet discrete litigation objectives within short deadlines.

The Ideal Candidate will have

• 5+ years of litigation experience, preferably in a mid-sized or larger law firm and / or with large institutional clients.
• Bar admission in CA and based in Los Angeles.
• Demonstrated hands-on litigation experience handling court appearances, hearings, and trials.
• Experience representing client interests when meeting and conferring with various stakeholders, including opposing counsel.
• Strong legal research and drafting skills experience.
• Excellent legal drafting and communication skills, including oral and written advocacy.
• Ability to distill research into meaningful and persuasive written work product, as well as to work meticulously to ensure work product quality.
• High level of responsiveness and client service abilities.
• Availability to work remotely, anticipated full-time hours, and support PST business hours.
• Excellent writing skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to produce high quality work product with minimal supervision and direction.

Compensation and Benefits

Please note that this is a temporary contract position managed by DWT's flexible attorney and professional staff program, DWTSurge. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis, commensurate with experience and skill level (see below). This role is eligible for benefits. Salary Range

The hourly range for this position in California is $100 to $130 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
