Great American Loss Control is currently seeking a Senior Loss Control Consultant who will provide technically competent loss control services and conduct onsite activities to help acquire and retain profitable business, in accordance with the company and business teams' policies and objectives.
The person hired will work from home and travel within their territory, mainly in the Western States (CO, ID, UT,NV, TX, etc.
with other geographic areas assigned as workloads dictate. Requires extensive travel. A company car will be provided, requiring a good driving record.
Job title and grade will depend on the successful applicant's level of experience and location.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
Conducts loss prevention surveys / physical site inspections and service for commercial construction projects with loss sensitive, OCIP and CCIP coverage programs.
Provides underwriters with an accurate description of the physical and operational details of an insured construction project.
Identifies hazards and potential loss exposures and makes recommendations to eliminate or reduce the potential loss.Consults with underwriters and other staff regarding account / line-of-business acceptability, exposures, and controls pertinent to the various lines of business.
Assists underwriters and other staff relative to account operations, exposures, construction, and protection.Conducts accident investigation and loss analysis to identify causes.
Employs effective sales and communication skills to achieve compliance with recommendations and provides safety and / or supervisory training to insureds.
Conducts joint marketing presentations, in conjunction with Underwriting, Claims, and Marketing, to accounts and agents.
- Maintains specialized knowledge of company / department manuals and procedures, and relevant Federal, State, and other pertinent codes and regulations applicable to Property, Liability, and Casualty lines of coverage.
- Provides technical advice to lower-level positions and other functional areas. May review the work of and / or assist in training new employees.
- May lead the work of others (mentors, prioritizes, delegates, and reviews assignments).
- May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Education : Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.
Field of Study : Safety, Engineering, Mathematics, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Experience : Generally, 5 to 10 years of related experience. Certification in area of chosen expertise may be required; appropriate certifications could include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety and Health Management (CSHMS), Associate Loss Control Management (ALCM), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), Construction Health and Safety Technician® (CHST®), Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS®), OSHA #500
