UPMC Jameson is looking for a full-time Care Attendant to join the Resource Pool. The Care Attendant will provide observation and direct patient care as directed by the RN. This includes activities of daily living such as bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, and ambulating. They will also turn and reposition patients, maintain a safe and clean environment, and ensure patient rooms are organized and equipped. The Care Attendant will acquire and distribute supplies and equipment, deliver patient nourishments, fill water pitchers, and distribute patient mail. They will provide feedback to the RN regarding patient care and report changes in patient status. Additionally, the Care Attendant will complete clerical functions, communicate clearly with the health care team, and support changes within the department. They will also assume responsibility for their assignment and view problems as challenges. The role requires compliance with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions and understanding policies for blood borne pathogen exposure. The Care Attendant will provide one-on-one companionship and supervision with patients. Knowledge of body mechanics and transfer techniques is essential, as well as the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
