The Center for Inpatient Child & Adolescent Psychiatry at Somerville offers a groundbreaking, patient and family-centered approach to care, addressing a variety of mental health needs.
The 6 East and 6 West Child Unit hosts a 21-bed secured psychiatric unit dedicated to providing care for children between the ages of 3 and 11, situated at our CHA Somerville Campus. We utilize a multi-disciplinary approach to ensure patient and family-centric care, with a strong commitment to reducing restraint and focusing on assessment, stabilization, and aftercare treatment planning. Our methodologies are trauma-informed, evidence-based, and centered around the needs of our patients and their families.
Job Purpose :
The Milieu Counselor plays an integral role on the multidisciplinary team, working under the guidance of a registered nurse. You will be responsible for ensuring a safe and structured environment while addressing the individual needs of patients in crisis within an inpatient psychiatric setting.
As a Milieu Counselor, your responsibilities will include assisting patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), leading or co-leading groups, performing safety checks, holding one-on-one meetings with patients, and accurately documenting vital signs. You will notify the RN of any significant changes in patients' conditions, ensure proper documentation of intake and output, and support patients in meeting their nutritional and hydration needs, all while undertaking other tasks as assigned by the charge RN.
