Opportunity
As an Electrical Project Engineer, you will serve as a technical specialist or project lead on substation projects up to 765 kV. Your responsibilities will include design coordination, deliverable development, quality review, and client collaboration. Travel may be required for design reviews and site verification.
- Provide project coordination and technical guidance on substation projects.
- Support projects ranging up to 765 kV in detailed design and EPC execution.
- Develop protection and control design deliverables (relays, panel arrangements, one-line diagrams, AC / DC schematics).
- Develop physical layout deliverables (yard plans, grounding, lightning protection, auxiliary power systems).
- Perform or oversee quality review of electrical substation design packages.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Prepare electrical equipment specifications and BOMs for procurement and construction.
- Communicate and coordinate project activities with clients, vendors, subcontractors and stakeholders.
- Present proposals, designs and project activities to stakeholders.
- Manage design budgets and schedules.
- Support business development or pursuit activities.
Hybrid work model : 3 in-office days and 2 remote / flex days per week. Eligible for relocation to any Black & Veatch U.S. regional office.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and apply design guides, standards and codes; provide technical guidance on projects and disciplines.Ensure compliance with Black & Veatch quality program and support continuous improvement.Prepare engineering deliverables, calculations, schedules and budgets for multidisciplinary projects.Coordinate with internal and external teams on complex projects.Identify and communicate client interests and project drivers for high-voltage substation projects.Provide mentorship and knowledge management to lower-level professionals.Assist with resource management strategy and small-group engineering assignments.Preferred Qualifications
High-voltage substation design experience – physical and / or protection & controls.Project lead and technical specialist experience on utility substation clients.QA / QC review experience.Experience coordinating with clients, multidisciplinary leads and project managers.Professional Engineer (PE) license.Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).Minimum Qualifications
