The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.

They provide care to patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, and technology.

Essential functions include performing all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.

The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.

Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided is crucial for the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.

Completing the initial assessment upon patient admission and developing an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards is expected.

The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.

Modifying the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation is necessary.

Taking responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and / or correcting safety hazards and incidents is essential.

The RN communicates with others directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues.

They offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confer with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.

Identifying their own learning needs and taking the initiative to begin appropriate solutions is important.

Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is expected.
