Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Mental Health Director, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, examining and treating clients with behavioral health disorders as part of the Behavioral Healthcare team.
When indicated may prescribe medication and teach clients and their families about the client’s diagnoses and medication.
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will work with the Behavioral health team in developing, monitoring, and ensuring treatment for clients who have behavioral health issues within the guidelines of the Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services and Tribe and New York State Office of Mental Health by performing the following duties :
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following :
- Exhibit a friendly and courteous manner when dealing with client, employees and fellow associates.
- Provide assessment and diagnosis of clients with behavioral health issues by analyzing and interpreting client’s histories, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop appropriate diagnoses.
- Consult with psychiatrist and behavioral health staff regarding assessment and treatment plan, attend treatment team meetings and case consultations as required.
- Provide medication management and treatment of behavioral health issues, provide education and counseling regarding drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with other substances.
- Provide crisis intervention for behavioral health issues when needed.
- Assess and treat clients who have co-occurring disorders, work with behavioral health staff in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Detect and respond to adverse drug reactions.
- Analyze physical health findings, other data, and laboratory work to inform diagnosis or treatment.
- Collaborate with other health care professionals to plan or provide treatment.
- Maintain client’s electronic health record in RPMS and EHR according to NYSOMH standards of care.
- Other related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES : There are no supervisor requirements for this position,

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : Must be a Nurse Practitioner eligible or holding licensure in NYS with a specialty in Psychiatry.
One year Experience working in in inpatient or outpatient behavioral health setting preferred.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES : Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have computer skills including word and preferred experience documenting in electronic health record.
Computer testing in the applicable skills may be a requirement during the interview process.
REASONING ABILITY : Maturity and ability to handle delicate role issues and to respond to crisis.
Must be at least 21 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
