Our Internships

We are looking for passionate and motivated students who are interested in pursuing a career in journalism to join our team! This program is a paid ten week summer internship from June to August 2026.

Our internships offer the opportunity to connect and collaborate across the FT in the US and globally. Youll develop ideas that help drive our growth present your work to US leadership and gain valuable insights from across the business. Plus youll be paired with a dedicated Buddy to provide mentorship and support throughout your experience.

Weve embraced a 50% hybrid working model (averaging two to three days onsite) that fosters trust and adaptability while encouraging in-person camaraderie and peer learning.

Role Overview

The Engagement and Growth team helps FT journalism reach a broader audience by producing original content for social media directly engaging with our readers managing engagement projects monitoring analytics and advising editors and reporters on best guidelines.

We are looking for candidates with a proven interest in social media multimedia production community engagement or digital journalism in general. Knowledge of business and economics is helpful but not vital. Youll have the opportunity to help conceive shape and implement engagement strategies and experiments as well as take part in our daily audience engagement activities. This is a position within the newsroom. Candidates will be selected based on their interest in working in journalism and audience engagement.

Key responsibilities

Helping develop original ideas experiments and engagement / social media strategies around planned news events breaking news and special projects

Assisting the social media team in producing posts and keeping our channels up to date and on the news agenda

Producing original content specifically for social media to help promote FT journalism (this could include charts social cards videos etc.)

Assisting with direct reader engagement through reader participation / community projects

Using data and insights to analyse audience behaviour and help inform our journalism

Providing SEO and social trends guidance from social and web listening tools

Required skills / experience :

Experience in journalism (a student publication counts) and good news judgement

Experience with design (Adobe Suite or similar) and video editing a plus

Good writing and editing skills

Good communication skills organised curious and able to balance multiple projects at once

You are interested in making FT journalism accessible to a broader audience across various platforms

A reasonable estimate of the salary range for this role is $20 per hour . To ensure pay fairness the successful candidate will be offered a rate within the estimated range based on a number of considerations including but not limited to : skills; experience and training; certifications; and other business and organisational needs. The disclosed range estimate is for our NYC office and has not been adjusted for other locations.
