Job Summary
The Mental Health Technician (MHT) in the Emergency Room provides direct patient care and behavioral health support to individuals presenting with psychiatric, emotional, or behavioral conditions. The MHT works under the supervision of registered nurses and physicians to ensure patient safety, support therapeutic interventions, and maintain a safe and supportive environment in a fast-paced emergency setting.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
Prior experience as a Mental Health Technician, Patient Care Technician, or behavioral health aide preferred
Experience in an Emergency Room, psychiatric unit, or acute care setting strongly preferred
Certifications (Required or Preferred):
Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association required
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent de-escalation training preferred or required within a specified timeframe
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of behavioral health conditions and crisis management principles
Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress situations
Strong observation, communication, and documentation skills
Ability to follow safety protocols and hospital policies
Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Physical ability to assist with patient mobility and emergency interventions
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
Manual dexterity and visual acuity required

Emergency Room and behavioral health treatment areas
Exposure to emotionally distressed patients and unpredictable situation
Work Schedule:
Night Shift 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM , Alternated Weekends & Holidays
