As a HealthMarket Clerk, this position will be responsible for safely handling food and ensuring the work area is always clean and neat. You will review the status and appearance of the merchandise for freshness. Additionally, you will ensure a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service to customers and team members.

Reporting relations include accountability to the District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Health Wellness Home, Store Operations, and Perishables, and HealthMarket Department Manager. There are no positions that report to you.

Primary duties and responsibilities include :

• Providing prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service
• Smiling and greeting customers in a friendly manner
• Making an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
• Assisting customers by escorting them to the products they're looking for, securing products that are out of reach, loading or unloading heavy items, making notes of and passing along customer suggestions or requests, performing other tasks in every way possible to enhance the shopping experience
• Answering the telephone promptly when called upon, and providing friendly, helpful service to customers who call
• Working with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
• Understanding and practicing proper sanitation procedures
• Reviewing the status and appearance of the merchandise for freshness
• Ensuring an adequate product supply is ready and on hand and developing or following a production list
• For homeopathic and natural wellness products, assisting customers by accessing / obtaining information and pointing to the product, however will not provide instruction on the product or its use
• Anticipating product needs for the department daily
• Checking in product, putting product away, and reviewing invoices
• Removing trash promptly
• Replacing product as necessary
• Assisting in educating customers by offering suggestions and answering questions
• Maintaining strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
• Adhering to company policies and individual store guidelines
• Reporting to work when scheduled and on time

Secondary duties and responsibilities include : ordering products and supplies as necessary, pricing products for customers as necessary, delivering orders as needed, assisting in other areas of the store as needed, and performing other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and worker characteristics include the ability to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or verbal instructions, deal with a few concrete variables, do simple addition and subtraction, copying figures, counting, and recording, understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies orally or in writing. Education and experience include less than high school or equivalent experience and six months or less of similar or related work experience. Supervisory responsibilities are none.

Physical requirements include the ability to physically perform medium work : exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Visual requirements include clarity of vision at a distance of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet with or without correction, color vision, depth perception, and field of vision. Must be able to perform the following physical activities : climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. This position is frequently exposed to temperature extremes and dampness. There are possible equipment movement hazards, electrical shock, and exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. This is a fast-paced work environment. Equipment used to perform the job includes knives, wrapping machine, cash register, pallet jack, garbage disposal, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, and calculator.

Financial responsibilities are none. Contacts include daily contact with store personnel, customers, and the general public. Confidentiality is none.
