Job Title : Director Accounting Operations
This position is an in-office position. It will have the possibility of occasional remote work for flexibility but will be primarily in-office.

In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all accounting, budgeting and financial reporting processes for WoodmenLife and all subsidiary / affiliate companies to assure compliance with Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. You will oversee and ensure that compliance with the NAIC Model Audit rule regulation and all required state insurance department regulatory reporting necessary to continue to conduct business in each state is achieved. Provide accounting expertise on various corporate and division projects, extensively collaborates with peers, serves on various cross divisional committees as assigned and stays abreast of all WoodmenLife and subsidiary company strategies, policies and procedures. These accountabilities are primarily achieved through the selection, training, career development and ongoing management of Managers and Supervisors within the section.

- We are looking for someone to :
- As an officer of the company and responsible for the various state department business filings (approx. 48), Incumbent is responsible for signing on behalf of the company as to the accuracy of the information contained within. Failure to do so accurately and timely can result in penalties and inability to sell insurance in the states.
- Determines staffing strategy by hiring, training, and retaining competent finance staff; motivates associates to achieve peek productivity and performance
- Leads the development of operating goals and objectives for direct Departments and contributes to the Accounting Services Division goals and objectives; recommends, implements, and administers methods and procedures to enhance operations.
- Develops and manages budgets for Treasury Operations. Oversees and assists with department budgets for Financial Reporting Accounting Operations, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable.
- Manages the annual and quarterly filings with AMBest and NAIC, as well as Supplement filings in March, April, June and August.
- Partners with key business units to manage WoodmenLife's annual budget process for the organization.
- Oversees the completion of various state filings on behalf of the subsidiaries (WFS & WIA approx. 81).
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of variable annuity processes to support daily unit value pricing. . Ensures all trades are made by required deadlines to avoid losses and accurate financial reporting of all variable annuity product activity.
- Stays abreast of Statements of Statutory Accounting Principles (SSAP's), Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), Actuarial Guidelines, Investment Accounting Guidelines, Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc. (FINRA) regulations and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Guidelines.
- Conducts research and develops recommendations for implementing new, complex SAAP and GAAP accounting standards. Directs, leads and evaluates the quality and accuracy of all general ledger account reconciliations and ensures that supporting records comply with NAIC Model Audit Rule requirements.
- Provides financial information to Organization stakeholders, internal and external auditors, and state insurance examiners.
- Oversees the creation and accuracy of the annual financial audit report
- Oversees and coordinates the planning, implementation and administration of programs to develop, adjust and / or enhance systems and procedures as required.
We need someone who has :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting / Finance or equivalent experience.Five to seven years of management experience strongly preferred.Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence and professional presence- ability to effectively motivate leadership and individual contributorsSeven to ten years of proven experience of Statutory, GAAP, IFRS and Non-profit accounting principles.Thorough understanding of NAIC Model Audit Rule requirements and internal controls of various accounting functions.Knowledge of SEC rules and regulations.Proven problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills.Excellent time management skills required to handle multiple projects.Skill in budget preparation and fiscal management.Technical proficiency in accounting platforms and M365 products to drive informed decision-making and process improvements.Ability to identify opportunities for cost savings, automation, and financial optimizationUnderstanding of internal controls of various accounting functions.Incumbent must be fingerprinted and meet all eligibility requirements to work for an SEC regulated organization.Excellent oral and written communication skills.Proven ability to effectively present financial information to various stakeholdersLead with a collaborative mindset, empowering team members through thoughtful delegation and shared ownership of outcomes.Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion, integrity, and strict adherence to privacy protocols.Desired Qualifications
