Referrals Associate

Summary

Executes patient insurance referrals, consultations, and diagnostic procedures relating to the healthcare facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Schedule consultation and diagnostic appointments, with hospitals and specialty offices for patients per provider request and documents necessary information.
• Accurately and timely, completes requested forms for, Insurance, and specialty offices.
• Obtain insurance authorization for appointments.
• Contact patients to provide appointment date, time, location and preparation information for appointment, if appropriate.
• Answer questions and conducts research to answer questions regarding patient referral appointments and testing.
• Answer telephone, screens calls, takes messages, and provides information regarding patient referrals.
• Work closely with other internal departments to assure all the necessary patient information is received to complete the patient referral.
• Reschedule missed appointments, after the 30-day patient responsibility window has elapsed.
• Assures referrals are properly tracked in the referral database. Track referrals to post, no show, cancelled and rescheduled appointments.
• Review encounters for changed insurance information and changing demographics, as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Skills / Qualifications

Education / Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Medical Secretary Certification or equivalent experience preferred. Two (2) years related experience preferred.
