Ready to lead the design and development of innovative, high-performance custom crane and lifting solutions? Were looking for a Principal Controls Engineer who can do just that, and more. In this role, you will be a key leader within our Advanced Engineering team for our Critical Handling Solutions (CHS) business unit. The CHS business unit serves several diverse industries including aerospace, nuclear test laboratories, commercial nuclear plants, and various other industries. Be a part of designing machines that lift anything from F35 fighter jets to nuclear reactors, to rocket ships!

Our customers are in need of advanced solutions for efficient and safe handling of critical payloads in their most challenging applications. Our Principal Controls Engineer is at the forefront of bringing this capability to life. From owning and shaping technical concepts for RFQs to spearheading research & development, this role is pivotal in securing new business, extending our companys technical excellence, and ensuring the successful execution of complex engineering projects.

Success Criteria

In this role, you will take ownership of a share of RFQ concept development, leading the charge in formulating technical controls and software solutions that align with customer needs and leverage our expertise in material handling equipment for critical applications. Your ability to accurately estimate costs, materials, and labor will be crucial as you craft proposals that meet customer expectations and drive revenue growth. Youll work closely with customers, building strong relationships that enable you to present tailored solutions showcasing our technological capabilities.

As a key member of our engineering leadership team, you will guide and collaborate with cross-functional experts to translate complex customer challenges into innovative, efficient solutions. Your expertise will help guide project teams through technical challenges, ensuring that solutions are effective, timely, and delivered within budget. Youll play a hands?on role in problem?solving, mentoring teams to enhance their skills and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Your strategic insight will also drive our research and development efforts. Youll play a key role in integrating advanced technologies that enhance our processes, setting new standards for operational excellence. Your forward?thinking approach will contribute in a meaningful way toward our long?term growth strategies. Your contributions to industry conferences and presentations will extend our reputation as a frontrunner in next?generation material handling technologies.

We offer market competitive pay and benefits based upon the candidates skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. Our starting rate of pay for this salaried position is targeted at $130,000-160,000 annually.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • BS in Engineering (Electrical, Software, or related field), MS preferred
  • Proven track record in designing complex custom motion control solutions with an ability to communicate complex technical concepts to audiences with varying technical skills both internally and externally in a professional, comprehensive manner
  • Extensive experience in RFQ concept development and formulating technical solutions aligned with customer needs. Skilled in cost estimation, proposal development, ensuring compliance with industry and quality standards
  • Strong background in mentoring engineering talent and fostering continuous improvement
  • Knowledgeable in safety and regulatory standards (NQA-1)
  • Experience negotiating technical contracts and managing intellectual property in collaboration with legal teams
