Marin Community Clinics, founded in 1972, is today, a multi-clinic network with a wide array of integrated primary care, dental, behavioral, specialty and referral services. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we provide vital health services to almost 40,000 individuals annually in Marin County. The Medical Assistant will perform a wide range of duties in the clinic. Tasks primarily involve assisting in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a Physician, Physician Assistant and / or Family Nurse Practitioner. Their duties include greeting patients, updating patient records and performing standard care procedures. The Medical Assistant will have direct contact with patients and work closely with the Care Team. This position reports to the Medical Assistant Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Escorts patients to the exam room and interviews patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs including pulse rate, temperature, height and weight.
• Consistently uses good customer service, empathy and cultural sensitivity with patients throughout their encounters.
• Administers patient screeners and adheres to care guidelines such as ACEs, PHQ, Columbia and others that may be sensitive in nature.
• Accurately and promptly records information in Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
• Uploads ultrasounds, patient photos, screen questionnaires in EHR.
• Cleans and sterilizes instruments in accordance with department's policy and OSHA guidelines.
• Works on in-box tasks sent by Provider or other members of the care team for follow up.
• Arranges and coordinates video visits between providers and patients using a telehealth visit platform and troubleshoots any technical issues with patients.
• Maintains medication supplies, checking for expiration date, and keeping exam rooms stocked.
• Operates electrocardiograph (EKG) and other equipment to administer routine CLIA waived diagnostic tests and / or calls medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests.
• Gives injections or treatments, and performs routine laboratory tests.
• Follows policies and procedures including universal precautions as defined by OSHA's guidelines on Bloodborne Pathogens and Hazardous Materials standards.
• Participates in and adheres to Care Team processes and procedures.
• Works to demonstrate MCC's mission and values in all aspects of job performance.
• Maintains confidentiality in strict accordance with department policy and HIPAA guidelines.
• Attends and participates in required meetings, training and educational programs.
• Performs administrative duties including checking eligibility, verifying demographics, assisting patients with filling out necessary paperwork, and making up follow-up appointments.
• Helps manage provider schedules, patient flow and provide wait time updates.
• Performs other related work as assigned.
