The classification of Police Officer at the City of Walnut Creek requires the following three elements of Education and Experience. Candidates must meet all three criteria below in order to move forward in the selection process :
To qualify for this Police Officer Academy Graduate recruitment, one of the following must be true about your current level of experience :
a. You are currently (or within the last three years have been) employed in a sworn capacity with a California law enforcement agency but you have not yet completed probation; or
b. You have previous experience (more than three years prior) in a sworn capacity in a California agency and have obtained a current P.O.S.T. Recertification.
Note : if you do not meet the criteria above, you may qualify for the Police Officer Trainee or Police Officer - Lateral recruitments. Applications received in December 2024 will be reviewed for consideration in January 2025. Our first oral board interviews in 2025 are tentatively scheduled for January 16 and January 30. A limited number of applicants displaying the most desirable qualifications on their application (and subsequent attachments) will be invited to participate in the examination process. All applicants will be notified by email as to whether or not they are invited to participate in the examination process. An eligible list will be established as a result of this examination process and will be valid for a period of six months. Applicants considered for appointment to this position will be subject to a thorough background investigation (consisting of, but not limited to, criminal history, Department of Justice and FBI fingerprinting, DMV driving history review, credit check, previous / current employment references, and personal references), pre-placement medical exam including drug screening, and a psychological exam. The City reserves the right to request a candidate to submit to a polygraph exam. The City of Walnut Creek is committed to providing a workforce with the highest standards of integrity and honesty.
