Department Summary
Grants and Contracts Administration (GCA) within the Division of Research & Innovation supports the University of North Texas, a tier 1 research university, in its endeavor to excel in its research mission.
GCA aspires to be a model organization in the field of research administration, providing exceptional service to the university community.
We are charged with the Pre-Award and Post Award administration of externally funded sponsored projects and envision an environment that facilitates the University of North Texas’ commitment to research and encourages continued efforts to attract additional research funding.
Position Overview
- The Senior Director of Grants Contracts Accounting and Fiscal Compliance is responsible for all aspects of the Post Award financial sponsored project processes including award review;
- grant set up; the monitoring of expenditures to ensure compliance with sponsor and institutional policies; invoicing; drawing down funds;
reconciliations; reporting; closeout and fiscal compliance for grants and contracts from federal, state agencies, and other nonprofit organizations.
This position oversees the sound fiscal management and reporting to federal and State agencies and other nonprofits; coordinating with other areas of the universities to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of grant and contract agreements as well as the organizations accounting policies and procedures;
including monitoring subrecipient awards and time and effort reports.
The Senior Director Grants, Contracts Accounting and Fiscal Compliance will also work closely with other areas of the university to ensure that costs charged to grants and contracts are necessary and reasonable and are treated consistently per all contract provisions, uniform Guidance 2 CFR Part 200, and best practices, and ensure that reimbursable costs are invoiced and collected timely.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in related field and seven years' of closely related professional experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to engage, coach, and influence team members, faculty, and other key stakeholders, facilitate an environment of trust and respect between team members, maintain a broad network of internal working relationships, and have up to date knowledge of applicable law and federal, state, institutional, and sponsor guidelines, including but not limited to FARS, DFARS, 2 CFR 200, and UGMS.
- Possesses exceptional leadership, organizational, and management skills with advanced knowledge of budgeting and financial management.
- Skilled in presenting complex financial concepts to diverse audiences. Proficient in technology including ERP systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and diplomacy, collaborating effectively across all levels.
- Capable of clear communication verbally and in writing, accommodating various personalities and working styles. Knowledgeable in administrative and managerial fields such as accounting, financial management, and information technology.
- Dedicated to providing excellent customer service and fostering effective relationships university-wide. Exercises accurate judgment, tact, and discretion in decision-making.
- Knowledge of safety, security and confidentiality precautions appropriate to work performed.

Job Duties :
- Oversee the post award fiscal administration of all grants and contracts awarded to the University. Establishes quality assurance measures and appropriate controls associated with the financial administration of grant and contract awards.
- Hires, trains, develops and manages the performance of the Post Award staff to maintain industry and professional standards.
- Ensures continuous quality improvement to improve processes and increase stakeholder satisfaction.
- Oversees and monitors fiscal compliance with sponsor regulations, university policies and procedures. Functions as the subject matter expert on certain sponsored research and financial policies.
- Prepares audit work papers for internal, external, and agency auditors by researching and analyzing financial activity of externally sponsored grants and contracts.
- Oversee preparation of sponsor billing and collections activities, drawdowns of Federal funds, subaward invoice processing and related account reconciliations.

Monday - Friday, 8 : 00AM - 5 : 00PM. Hybrid.
