PLUMBER POSITION
The purpose of this position is to perform responsible skilled plumbing work in the maintenance, repair, modification, installation, and construction of County facilities and equipment.
This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary.
General knowledge of the methods of installation and repair of plumbing systems.
General knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, tools, terminology, and safety precautions of building maintenance trades.
General knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials.
Skill in the operation of various tools and equipment used in multiple trades.
Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans, or specifications.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain records.
Ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates.
High School Graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by two (2) years of technical training in plumbing.
Two (2) years of plumbing or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness, and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. Involves routine and frequent exposure to :
Requires a valid Plumbing License (P-1 class or higher) and Backflow License issued by the North Carolina State Board of Examiners of Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors.
Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.
May be required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and emergencies (man-made or natural) to meet the business needs of Durham County.
