Kuakini Medical Center Description of Position

Responsible for ensuring that all patients admitted as inpatient or observation status have appropriate authorization(s) covering the stay, or that denied days are properly communicated and documented. A critical aspect of this position is to understand the revenue cycle and the importance of evaluating and securing all appropriate financial resources to maximize reimbursement. Collaborates with Care Management and Patient Financial Counselors to ensure that all status updates and patient communication is performed promptly. Ensures compliance with requirements of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, statutory regulations and company policies governing health care services and reimbursements.

Qualifications and Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate Degree in business or related field is preferred. At least two (2) to three (3) years work experience with processing claims with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial health insurance, managed care, worker compensation or other health plans is preferred. Must have a working knowledge of the managed care environment, third party reimbursement, hospital and community services and hospital and health care policies. Prior billing or revenue cycle experience is preferred; or any combination of education and experience which would provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to meet the minimum qualifications to perform the essential functions of this position.
