American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg position requiring a Michigan RN license, night shifts, and strong post-surgical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Medical Surgical unit within a hospital setting
  • Primarily night shifts, 3x12 hours from 19 : 00 to 7 : 30
  • Will float to other Med / Surg units, ICU, and ED holding Med / Surg patients as needed
  • Typical patient ratio is 1 : 6
  • Patient population includes post-surgical and general Med / Surg cases
  • Remote telemetry monitoring is used
  • Weekend shifts are required every other weekend
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • RNs are responsible for managing post-surgical and medical patients with complex care needs
  • Travelers have priority for floating assignments across compatible units
  • Flu vaccination documentation is required; exemption requests must be submitted quickly after contract signing
  • Orientation includes non-billable, self-reported modules to be completed annually
  • Must be available for the first 8 days of the assignment
  • No holiday requests allowed; holiday RTO discussed based on unit needs
  • Locals accepted at the same rate with no radius restrictions
  • References are required for consideration
  • Return staff may apply if more than 6 months since last assignment

    • Requirements

  • Active Michigan RN license required
  • Minimum 1.5 years of recent Med / Surg or PCU experience
  • Current certifications : BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Strong post-surgical competency required
  • Skills in telemetry, colostomy care, feeding tube management, pre / post hemodialysis management, port and PICC access, blood product administration, and surgical drain care
  • Experience with chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy management, and wound care including wound vac
  • Ability to manage various types of oxygen delivery and airway management
