Position Summary

and Responsibilities

Pennwood Cyber Charter School seeks high-quality, state-certified school counselors to join our staff. Working from a home office in Pennsylvania, certified School Counselors virtually provide counseling services at Pennwood Cyber Charter School using telephone, Internet, and various counseling tools.

School Counselors will be the initial point of contact for students and regularly consult with learning coaches and students to support each child's academic, personal, and social development.

The School Counselors are experts on course and credit requirements and will work with the Director of Counseling to establish counseling processes for elementary, middle, and high school students.

They collaborate with all staff to ensure the success of the school's counseling program for all students.

Key Responsibilities of the School Counselor :

  • Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive school counseling program that complies with Pennsylvania Department of Education standards and guidelines.
  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions addressing academic, career, and personal / social development needs, while meeting Pennsylvania state regulations.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to identify and address student needs, concerns, and challenges effectively.
  • Perform assessments and evaluations to identify student strengths, interests, and areas for improvement, ensuring adherence to Pennsylvania state requirements.
  • Develop and deliver classroom guidance lessons focusing on topics such as academic success, career exploration, and interpersonal skills, while aligning content with Pennsylvania academic standards.
  • Assist students in setting and achieving academic and career goals through personalized planning and guidance, consistent with Pennsylvania graduation requirements.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support services to students in distress, liaising with school personnel and external agencies as needed, adhering to Pennsylvania regulations.
  • Maintain precise and confidential student records, documentation, and reports in compliance with Pennsylvania student privacy laws.
  • Stay abreast of Pennsylvania education policies, regulations, and resources relevant to school counseling, ensuring adherence to all applicable standards.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, agencies, and higher education institutions to enhance support services and resources available to Pennsylvania students and families.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance counseling skills, knowledge, and effectiveness, meeting Pennsylvania professional development requirements.
  • Engage in continuous self-reflection and evaluation to refine counseling practices and contribute to the overall success of Pennsylvania students within the educational system.

Requirements :

  • Master's degree in School Counseling or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Education certification as a School Counselor or eligibility for certification.
  • Previous experience preferred in school counseling or a related field, demonstrating knowledge of Pennsylvania education policies and regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to effectively engage with diverse student populations and families.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development in line with Pennsylvania licensure requirements.
  • Familiarity with technology and data management systems used in Pennsylvania school counseling settings.
  • Ability to travel within and out of state as needed for school business.
  • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders : parents, students, community organizations, staff, and alumni.
  • Ability to effectively work and manage responsibilities remotely.
  • Technologically proficient (especially with Microsoft and Google Suites)
  • Dedication to advancing the academic, personal, and social well-being of all Pennsylvania students within the educational system.
