Penrose - St. Francis Health Services is a full-service 712-bed acute care provider in Colorado Springs comprised of Penrose Hospital St. Francis Medical Center and St. Francis Hospital - Interquest. Penrose Hospital serves as the anchor hospital of Penrose-St. Francis Health Services with 300-licensed beds and the ability to provide tertiary (high tech) medical-surgical services with an emphasis on elective and outpatient care. Established in 1890 Penrose Hospital has grown to become a major health treatment and referral center specializing in cancer care cardiac care emergency trauma care and physical rehabilitation.

Job Summary and Responsibilities
- The schedule for this position is five shifts per 6 week period
- Our PRN roles receive an additional 15% on top of their hourly base rate!
Penrose Ortho Surg Unit :
At Penrose Hospital an established Magnet hospital the Orthopedic Surgical Unit has 24 rooms and 26 beds. Our specialty is ortho trauma and neurosurgery. We care for elective orthopedic patients receiving knee hip and shoulder replacements as well as orthopedic trauma patients. We also see some neurosurgery cases that are mostly subdural bleeds and spinal surgeries. If surgical volume is low we also see some medical patients. Our mission is to provide care with the Golden Rule as the guiding principle. The department would be a good fit for someone who enjoys a fun working environment but can also work hard. Our unit can be very busy from a standpoint of patient turnover but many of us like the fast-paced environment.
For those desiring to get some med-surg experience before going to a specialty unit like ICU or ED this is a great place to receive good foundational nursing experience especially with the trauma population that we serve. The culture is supportive without micromanagement and is overall fun. The team is welcoming and helpful and the patient comments demonstrate the compassionate and friendly care provided by the team.
We look for candidates that are friendly flexible caring and hard working. We can always teach more skills but you cant teach a good attitude and a good attitude is what keeps our patient satisfaction scores high. Health care is full of variables and requires a nursing workforce that is flexible creative and resilient.
